Skippers’ Plan
More than seven decades ago in 1943, W. J. “Bill” Robertson opened a general insurance agency in Toronto. In the early 50s Bill developed a love for boating and created the Skippers’ Plan concept to provide boat insurance to Ontario boaters.
Skippers’ Plan grew as a family business over three generations under the brokerage name Robertson & Robertson Yacht Insurance.
In 2010, Robertson & Robertson Yacht Insurance became part of The CG&B Group, one of Canada’s foremost brokerages, and our clients benefited from being part of a larger marine insurance department. In addition to boat insurance, we were able to offer our clients auto, home and business insurance.
In 2011 the Canadian Yachting Association (now Sail Canada) selected Skippers’ Plan as its exclusive provider for insurance services across Canada. The Skippers’ Plan Sail Canada Members’ Program offers extra benefits on individual boat insurance plans plus preferred rates on home, auto and commercial insurance.
In 2014 CG&B was acquired by Arthur J. Gallagher Canada Limited one of the top 3 global insurance brokerages. Arthur J. Gallagher is one of the leading marine insurance brokers in the world and once again, our clients benefit from the enhanced line of products available.
